Betula pendula is a medium sized tree with an upright, conical habit but semi weeping branches, the bark is silvery white with horizontal lines and large, diamond shaped cracks as the tree matures. The tree bears small yellow catkins in spring, the leaves are diamond shaped, mid green turning bright yellow in the Autumn.
Silver birch will grow well in nearly all conditions, it is particularly suited to poor soils and will tolerate wet ground.
