Fish blood and bone is a fully organic, balanced fertiliser which is reasonably slow release, with good longevity in the soil.
It’s an excellent choice as a pre-planting application for salads and vegetables or for a spring application to existing shrub or herbaceous borders. Fish, blood and bone is a very alkaline fertiliser which makes it particularly suitable for use with brassicas and roses.
Usage Guidelines
Apply at 50g/m2 area of bare or cultivated soil, from early spring though to mid-late summer.
If applying as a pre-planting fertiliser ensure that it is thoroughly raked or dug in to avoid any lumps of fish, blood and bone coming into direct contact with the roots.
When applying post planting avoid contact with any foliage, particularly delicate, leaf salads. Where it does come into contact with any leaves wash off immediately.
Fish blood and bone can be used as a lawn fertiliser but we’d usually recommend granulated fertilisers for use on grass. If you are applying to a lawn then it needs to be applied with a mechanical spreader rather than by hand so it is spread evenly to reduce the risk of scorch.
