SUMMARY:How to Grow Your Own Cut Flowers (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:This a part two of our new workshop for 2020\, it’s been much requested by those that have attended our flower arranging sessions. It doesn’t matter at all if you missed part one\, we’ll be repeating it next year. \nMeryl Clarke from Nodding Violets is joining us to demonstrate how to grow your own\, beautiful cut flowers in your own garden. Tips on sowing\, planting\, planning and which varieties are best to grow to enable you to make beautiful bouquets\, from your garden\, all summer long \nOn the day we’ll be out in out in Meryl’s cutting patch at Hartshead Nurseries learning about the maintenance of your flowers through the summer\, successional sowing and a deeper look into which varieties and types of plants are best to grow. We’ll then move on to cutting some flowers and then learning how to condition them so that they look their best for as long as possible. \nAt half way we will have a short gardener’s tea break for some home made cakes and refreshments. SUMMARY:An Introduction to Micropropagation (Tissue Culture)
DESCRIPTION:This is an Introduction to Micropropagation which will be held in our tissue culture lab at Hartshead Nurseries. This workshop is designed to provide the basic\, beginner knowledge required to propagate plants at home using micropropagation techniques with equipment that is readily available at home (pressure cooker\, large plastic box\, scalpel and some plastic soup pots). \nThe subjects covered by our propagators will include the following and will all make sense by the end of the workshop. \n\nMother plant preparation.\nSterile working techniques.\nCollection and sterilisation of propagation material (Explants).\nNutrient salts and hormones\, their uses and effects.\nPreparation of different growing media (initiation\, multiplication\, rooting).\nMethods of plant multiplication.\nRooting\, weaning and growing on ex-vitro.\n\nBy the end of the day you will have divided some plant cultures\, placed them on rooting medium in a culture vessel which you can then take home. Your plants should be ready to wean and plant into compost after 2 weeks. \nThe workshop will be 4 hours long with a 30 minute break for a bite to eat and drink which we will provide\, please let me know if you have any dietary requirements. \nMy apologies that the price is higher than usual but places are limited to only three as the subject is quite complex and our lab is very bijoux.
